Yoga and Menopause

Relaxation, breathing, and self-centering offer women who practice yoga a noticeable sense of well-being during menopause.

While yoga does not directly treat menopause, it provides real comfort and a beneficial moment of pause and reconnection for women in peri- and post-menopause.

Of course, yoga has a calming effect that helps manage stress, but certain poses can also stimulate and relax organs such as the adrenal glands, which secrete hormones into the bloodstream, or the thyroid.
For women dealing with incontinence, yoga can be especially valuable—some poses engage the pelvic floor muscles, offering tangible results. Yoga also helps strengthen the pelvic area, reducing the risk of organ prolapse.

Fast and deep breathing techniques can reduce anxiety and help restore a sense of balance. Many breathing exercises are specifically designed for menopausal women.

Lastly, yoga helps release built-up stress and energy, and aids in eliminating toxins. This feeling of bodily purification or rebirth can be a powerful mental support for women experiencing emotional distress during menopause.
